State WV
I am a co owner of an auto that's worth 3500 according to Kelley Blue Book for a private party sale. My state allows for 1 auto under 2700. So will I be able to keep my car since I only own half the car?
The car is a 2000 Mustang GT with 160000 miles no carpet, broken removed AC and a broken removed stereo. The 3500 is based on a car in fair condition. My mother is the co owner, and has been since it was new and the title is titled as Her or Me.
I'm also filling jointly with my wife and this is the only way for us to get around. I collect SSI $624 and need this car to get to my doctors appointments buy medications and groceries. My wife makes about a $1000 a month working from home.
Is the auto limit maybe $2700+$2700 since we are filling jointly? We also had a 2006 Dodge Caravan but we surrendered it since we could no longer afford the payment.
The reason we are going bankrupt is because of me becoming disabled and us helping my mother who has had cancer 3 times, a liver transplant, open heart surgery, including stints, pace maker, and a new mitral transplant. Being resuscitated at least once. All this in a 2.5 year period and we have to pay for travel expenses to Johns Hopkins which is 200+ miles away. I'm a only child. Thank god I have a wonderful wife and mother.
Thanks for any help.
