Default Shoplifting at Meijer in Michigan

Michigan-Shoplifting at meijers (19-20 years old)
I never lived in USA before it's my first time in Michigan.. And I don't have any crimminal record...(I don't even have a state id or drivers liecense) I never intentionally to steal products from meijers.. I was shopping for my moving stuff and my cart was full because of huge trunk that I wanted to purchase. So I put fragil and small items in my purse.. I don't drive so I need a cab money so I decided to first my the big products through self check and take money out from the atm and buy the rest of the product.. When I lined up,I couldn't find a barcode sticker so I just decided to line up and buy the product. the atm was inside the store so I was putting my card into the atm but this lady stopped me and took me into the office and said I steal the product. I never lived in USA so I didn't know that if I pass the check out line, it would concider as stealing... So she was typing my information to her computer, and they way she talked to me felt so threatening but the wording wasn't. She said to sign this paper saying I did it and she said it was volunteering...She said if I sign this paper, I'm cooperating with her so I did....The total amount that I bought was $116 and the total amount that was unpaid was $64.. she gave me civil demand to pay $200..

She called the Meridian police and the police officer came and ask me my information and stuff... He said to wait for 3 days and I would rather recieve a letter or a call.. It's been a week but I didn't get any letter or a call... I don't live here.. I stay here for college year and go back home.. I can't get any help from here because I don't know any one here and no one lives here.. I asked one of the law people online that if I don't get any letter or a call he said I might not be charged.. Is this true? This happended on April 23rd and I'm leaving Michigan on May 6th.. I gave my home cell phone number and told my situation that I won't be here from May 6th til August 30th... If I don't receive anything, does this mean I'm not charged?

I really can't get help from my parents.. I need to do this by myself.. I already sent the check for the civil demand... I didn't know if you pass the check out line it will concider as stealing.... I contacted the attorney but they said they can't help me unless if I'm charged...

We have no way of knowing if you will be charged. The police took a report and told you that you would be charged, so it's likely. You are free to check periodically with the district court to see if a file has been opened in your name.
