My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California.

I moved to Florida 6 months ago. In order to bring my things to Florida from California I had my Dad take cash and pay for a car for me in California to drive back (with my things) to Florida. The car is paid in full. I have a receipt showing I paid in full for the car.

I was told two times on the phone (I called back because I read different in the DMV site in florida) that all I had to do was walk in with the papers they gave me, sign off the paperwork and pay the fee, fax a copy that I paid the fee to the dealership I bought the car from, and then they will send me the title and I can go get the license plate. He assured me they do this "all the time" and it's just fine and it will work.

So I get the car and drive to Florida and ... the lady at the dmv says that this is NOT how it gets done and needs him to call. I spend two days trying to call and talk to someone at this dealership and nobody returns calls and when I can get someone on the phone I spend huge amounts of time on hold while they transfer me around and give me the run around.

I have the car in my posession right now. I have the key and a receipt that shows I paid for the car in full along with a couple of other pieces of paper. They won't just send me the title.

They ALSO screwed things up for me because they hand wrote my Dads name on the top of the yellow receipt right next to my name (which is the name that the DMV puts on the title). My Dad has to essentially fly from California to sign off that he doesnt want his name on the title to my car.

I tried to talk to one guy on the phone and explain to him that the lady at the DMV wants HIM to call her because he's forgotten to give me some important form. Even one of the guys at the dealership said it sounds like they forgot to give me some important form.

Oh and ... at this point I've had the car in my posession and I havent paid taxes on it.

So how do I get these guys to give me the title for a vehicle I have purchased for in full and have full posession of in another state?

Any thoughts on this? All I wanted to do was get a car and get my things to Florida. I figured buying the car in California and taking things home would be easier and cost less in fuel and less time driving both ways. Instead I now have a headache and nightmare from these idiots at the dealership who are trying to do mickey mouse tactics to cover their butts for their screw up.
