I am a US citizen & have been doing some research on visas for my fiance'. I was wondering, if he plans to come to the States just for the purpose of meeting family AND for us to marry, but we dont plan on staying long, which is the best visa for him to come in on? (We may at some time in the next 10 yrs or so apply for a green card, but not any time soon as we both intend to live outside of the US as missionaries).
I originally checked into the "alien fiance/K-1" visa and was told it can take up to 5 months to process & the cost is significantly higher, but it seems more for those who are immediately planning to immigrate... My fiance' is from Fiji, but has lived in Aus for the last several years as a missionary and we are both in Australia at the moment. I called the visa helpline here and was told it is best to apply for the B2 - is that correct? If so, what are some things we can do to improve our chances of him getting approved - I know a big part is proof of not intending to stay in America long term... if he has good proof of coming back to Aus & his connections here is it better to focus on that, or shold we focus on his connections to Fiji? Also, he has family that live in the States - would it help to get letters of recommendation from them? AND, typically, do they allow anyone in the interview session besides the person applying for the visa?
Thanks heaps!
