    Default L2 Conversion

My husband and I are coming to the US towards the end of the year. My husband is on an L1a visa and I will be on an L2 visa. We jointly own a company in the UK and jointly own a new company in the US - hence his L1a visa. My husband will however be wanting to return to the UK after a year. I would like to permanently reside in the US as we are seperating. As an L2 visa is a dependant of the L1 visa holder - how will I be able to remain in the US? What visa do I need to convert too etc?

    Thanks

If you qualify for a H-1B, you should find an employer to sponsor you. You can also further your education on an F-1 if you have resources and the intention of returning to your home country in the future; since you state that you have no intention of leaving the US, this is not an option.

Once he leaves (or your divorce is final), you no longer qualify for an L2 dependent visa and you must leave if you have not secured another status permitting you to remain.

Just because you would like to remain in the US, it may not be possible so be prepared.
