    Default Charging Expired Credit Card

I have a VOIP account. It was an auto charge. One day my credit card expired. They sent me a notice that my account will be canceled if I did not change my account details in their website. I did not want the service anymore so I tried calling them. They were not answering my calls. So I left them assuming they will not charge me anymore as they do not have my new expiration date. Suddenly after 5 months they some how updated my information in their website with my new expiration. Even I did not know my credit card new expiration date as I was not using that card anymore. Then they have charged me for the past 5 months where my account was suspended. They argue that I changed the account details on their webpage which I did not do as I even forgot the login details of their website. How can this happen?

We have no way of telling you how your information was updated.

However, if you don't cancel an account that you're paying for on a monthly basis, your account isn't going to cancel itself. If you don't want the service, cancel it.

I suppose that begs the question then of:

were you under a contract and due to that was not able to cancel the service?

so, if you could legitimately cancel your account and you did actually cancel the account before the 5 months period in question, file a dispute with the CC company.

If it was the same card number and it was simply an updated expiration date, I would suggest they simply continued to bill to the CC company and when you had a new card issued, it finally went through as a charge.
