    Post Running from Security

My friend was stopped by security in a department store in iowa... apparently he had switched a price tag on a 90 dollar shirt to make it 60 dollars... he paid for the shirt and was about to walk out when he was stopped... he tried to run and the security guy grabbed him and hurt his shoulder and when he saw he hurt him he just let him go... he paid for the shirt and also left the shirt behind when he ran... the security guard ripped his shirt off of him... do you think they will pursue him or just let him be since they got everything back?

It doesn't matter if the store got it back or not. The crime was committed whether a recovery was made or not. If the store finds out who he is you can be certain he will be charged with at least shoplifting. Maybe more since he ran and fought.

It is also perfectly legal for the security person to detain him.

Do you think they would wasted their time on a charge when the security person was forceful and my friend didnt do anything physical... also if they did press charges would he be arrested or just sent to court

It's not a waste of their time. It what they get paid to do so they have a lot of time to work on it. It doesn't matter if the security person was forceful. Your friend resisted by running so he had every right to use the least amount of force necessary to detain.

Do you think he should call or go back and try to work it out with them? The security guy hurt him pretty bad when he grabbed him so he is kind of scared and his arm is in pretty bad shape... He just wants to work it out with them would pay whatever they demanded and stay out of their store

I would almost bet money that store has already filed charges because you friend decided to run (and hurt his arm in the process).

The store will most assuredly file charges in order to document the confrontation should your “buddy” come back and try to sue.

    It’s all about the liability!
