    Default Loan vs theft

I will try to make a long story short.
    We live in Pennsylvania

My daughter let someone at her school "borrow" her mp3 player and he was supposed to give it back right after lunch. He did not return it and claims not to know who has it or where it is. It is 2 weeks later and it still has not been found. Do we have any legal recourse?? Is the kid who borrowed it responsible in any way?

I take it the school authorities have not been helpful?

There is the possibility of a small claims suit although, if your daughter is a minor, depending upon local procedure you may have to have the court grant you permission to sue on your daughter's behalf.
