Default 4 Year Old Medical Debt from California

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California

I was wondering I know the statue of limitations on collecting debt in California is 4 years. Does that mean these new collectors that recently obtained this debt can't come after me? After 4 years it is supposidly written off but I'm wondering if I still have to pay these people.

The statute of limitations governs when a creditor can sue, not when a creditor can ask you to pay. A collector has to be careful not to violate debt collection laws when collecting an expired debt. You can send a written instruction to a collection agency telling them not to contact you again about the debt - in theory they can still sue you, but if the debt is in fact expired that is not likely and (if you assert the statute of limitations defense) won't succeed.
