My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: New york
Hello, few days ago I was pulled over by a cop in Brooklyn for failure to stop at a stop sign. It was 4:00 am and it was raining and foggy I didn’t see the stop sign at all but I stopped at the intersection because I was going to make a left turn. after I made the turn I found the police care behind me flashing his lights, he asked for my license and registration and when I asked what I did wrong he said you didn’t stop at the stop sign I answered that I didn’t see any stop sign and I sopped at the intersection anyway, he said you were supposed to stop at the stop sign not at the intersection. So he gave me a ticket in violation of section 1142A. the street I was driving in was a two way street so there was only one small stop sign on the right and with the rain and fogg it was very easy to miss. I couldn't believe that I missed the sign and I went back to the intersection next day to make sure that there was a stop sign there. I have been driving in NYC for 7 years and I never got any tickets before I didn’t know how much was the ticket for but I asked a friend who told me that stop sign ticket is same as running a red light which is 270$ plus 3 points. I am a student and 270$ is a lot of money to pay. I didn’t answer the ticket yet and I want an advice about what to do. If I plead not guilty and go to court do I stand a chance to have the ticket dismissed or even reduced. If I plead not guilty and then the court found me guilty do I pay more money than if I plead guilty. Pleas advise me. Thank you
