    Default Disorderly Conduct - Domestic

I have a question that I am hoping to have some help or gain some knowledge.

This is for issues / ticket residing in Wisconsin.

I was issued a Disorderly Conduct - Domestic ticket that I didn't know I had. I had called the Police and actually ended up being the one arrested (due to my ex and primary placement of our children). I was charged w/ a Disorderly Conduct - Domestic in October of 2003.

I'm currently trying to become a Police Officer and am wondering if I will not be eligible because of the Domestic (which most departments state) and if there is a way to get this expunged from my record. I had a previous where it was a deferred prosicution (if I complied - anger management, no other violence...), of which I complied. The second time around, I called the Police to report my ex being violent (and to cover my butt) and I ended up with a DC - Domestic.

I tried to contact the State District Attorney but was informed that it's out of their hands and back in the Police Dept's.

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to change this? Get an attorney, talk to the DA or ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

    Thanks

    Risson

I am not certain of the expungement procedures in your state, but, I can tell you that if this offense falls under the state or federal domestic violence statutes, you will not be able to be a peace officer so long as it remains on your record. Even if you have it expunged, it will dog you and will make it very difficult to gain employment in the field. Expunging it will not erase it from people's memories ... it WILL come up in the background, and they WILL ask you about it.

And if you were to respond with the line, "But it's expunged," the next thing you will hear will be, "Thank you for applying with us. Good luck in the future."

    Default Domestic Violence Charge

Are you stating that a charge was filed in October, 2003, but that there have never been any court proceedings on the charge and has not been a conviction? If the charge is still pending then you should consider getting the help of a lawyer to try to resolve the charge in a manner favorable to you and your plans.
