Tenant1 and boyfriend are awakened to someone trying to open their bedroom window two days ago. Going to the window they see a person who then backs off. Intruder appears intoxicated and stumbles up the stairs to the apartment directly above, enters with key and dissappears.
Tenant1 calls me and tells me what happens, i go, see signs of a breakin and ask her and boyfriend how they want to handle it. She says talk to tenant2 (upstairs). I say OK, and tell tenant2 what had occurred and who is this person in his apt who is not on his lease. Tenant2 says he'll talk to his roomie but doesn't want to pay the extra 100 for his roomie who is not on the lease.
Taking an iron worker to view the damage, tenant1 asks what i'm going to do about "all the people upstairs, as there are a ton of people, and she is concerned for her safety". I say if your concerned about your safety, go to the police. She doesn't want to go to the police. She's changed her story that she wanted me to talk to tenant2 in front of her. she's odd, and now lying.
I'm having the window mechanism repaired Sunday. I'm going to evict the person not on the lease.
Short of posting an armed guard, have I covered all my bases?
