My question involves small claims court in the state of: Hawaii
Sold my vehicle to an acquaintance (last minute before moving off island) in the summer of 2008. We both signed a contract and had it notarized. He paid me about half but claimed to have money problems for a while now. I returned to the island but I didn't have his address (or time to figure it out) to serve him with court papers.
When I tried to contact him/track him down again recently I found out he had just gotten thrown in jail and the vehicle had been towed for illegal tags. I would have tried to have him sign the car back over to me but to get it out would have cost more than it was worth. I'm assuming there's nothing I can do at this point, but as a last resort I thought I'd double check and ask...
Is there any way I could still try to get payment for the remaining balance of the vehicle?
