Default Assessing the Value of an Estate's Assets

One more question: When placing value on estate assets such as jewelry, silver items etc (the total sum of which is < $6,000 retail BRAND NEW), what value do I use?

I have had the items priced by 2 reputable buyers (not pawn shops) in our area. But should I state the potential retail value> I have looked on the internet, and with the economy none of it seems to be valued well. The items are old and not a well known/valued brand or name.

Most is silver, not gold. Should I state what I could get now ($ wise) or what I MIGHT get on Ebay in a year????

A sibling wants both items, I want to make sure I price the value fairly against their dollar value in the estate

    Thanks

Find someone qualified to determine the fair market value of the jewelry. It may cost the estate some money to do this, but you will have less complaints if you can undisputable produce report to show the other beneficaries.

I was in the same boat. Items I thought had great value did not, and vicea versa. I would have done everyone a huge disservice if I did't get a professional report.
