Default New York Approved Runaway Act

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: New York, I was looking up emancipation and runaway laws when i stumbled across The Aproved Runaway and Homeless Youth Act of 1978. What exactly is this and can it help a 17 year old out of an abusive household?

Has the abuse been reported to CPS and/or 911?

    If not, why not?

It has and it was deemed "an attempt to discipline"

    Thus, no abuse occurred.

New York, as you may have realized, does not have an emancipation statute.

So, have the minor call Youthline at 1-800-246-4646 and they will try to do whatever they can to help.

The purpose of the law is to provide funding to organizations that help runaways and homeless teenagers. It's not meant to help kids run away. Approved programs are supposed to work to determine the reasons for a teen's homelessness and, if practicable, to try to get the teen back into his or her home. See the New York Executive Code, sec. 532 et seq.
