Default Should You Apologize to a Store for Shoplifting

Ohio:I was caught shoplifting at walmart today and they took down my drivers license info, ss# and phone #. They didn't call the police. the item was 5 dollars. of course they gave me papers saying they reserve the right to pursue criminal charges and and civil action. It's up to the office i guess. I've been thinking about emailing the contact info they gave me and offering an apology, to never go into that store again and telling them i would happily pay civil damages so they're further inclined to not press criminal charges. the item was undamaged and can be put back on the shelf. i'm so worried this would be my first offense. i'm 21, i'm an idiot. what do i do here? should i just wait and see if they send me a civil settlement? but I CANNOT get criminal charges, it will ruin me, i have NO money. this is the worst day of my life...

Do not contact the store. The matter is now out of their hands.

Your information has already been sent to Bentonville... and you will be receiving a civil demand in the next couple of months.
