My question involves towing laws for the State of New York:
I find it odd that there are no specifications regarding towing for citizens that have had their car towed by NYPD. I have contacted representatives, called 311 and other avenues to obtain info and hit a brick wall every time. I have had my car towed on two occasions and have witnessed individuals in my community in outrage over the over-use of towing in my part of the city. I live in Inwood at the top of Manhattan and it seems as if teams of NYPD both ticket, then tow vehicles that are even a few minutes past the designated time allotted for parking.
On four occasions I have witnessed an individual approach their vehicle as it was in the process of being hoisted onto a tow truck with no way to prevent the towing. The law that I have read seems vague without specification or detail, indicating that "any vehicle that is illegally parked is subject to towing." That doesn't help any.
In California, we attend city meetings, petition and protest to demand just action. What can I do in this place called the "Big Apple," as it seems as though some just plead in desperation to no avail?
