Question Do I Qualify for a "Federal Extension" - My UI is About to Run Out

Am I interpreting this information correctly? My Claims ends in April, does what the below reads means that I DO NOT qualify for a 3rd (federal extension) extension? I file for UI last year and my 2nd extension is about to expire.

    http://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/F...Extensions.htm

"Filing deadlines for federal unemployment extension benefits are fast approaching. Unless the U.S. Congress takes action to extend the current filing deadlines, Sunday, February 21, 2010, is the deadline for filing a first federal extension of benefits once a regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim runs out. In addition, the current deadline for filing for a second, third, or fourth federal extension is Sunday, February 28, 2010. The impact on claimants depends on when they started their regular UI claim and when they are set to exhaust their current benefits."

That is correct. If Congress doesn't act you would not qualify.

Is there any indication that congress is doing anything about this? Is there anything I can do to get an extension?
I'm in the same situation as many others, no job yet and in need of money. If I lose the benefits, everything I got goes with it

they voted in something but I don't know any details. I suggest researching the news to see what was in the package they passed.

try a few of these links:

I honestly know almost nothing about what the bill included. From what little I have heard, the simply reinstated the Federal extensions. I don't know how long you can claim for totally though or if that was changed. You used to be able to collect for up to 99 weeks, if I had heard correctly. I do not know if that has changed with this new bill.

You were right they did come out with something. EDD website has posted an update on March 3rd. I read the information but I am still unclear whether or not I qualify. My claims ends in April 17, but I receive my last check sometime next week, somewhere between March 18-20. Do I qualify or do I not meet the deadline?
Here is the full article, if anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.

    http://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/F...Extensions.htm

""President Barack Obama has signed legislation approved by the U.S. Congress that will extend the filing deadlines for a month on the four different federal extensions of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits currently available. This new legislation did not add more weeks of unemployment benefits to the federal extensions. It only extended the deadlines for filing the federal extensions.

EDD estimates that will help 200,000 to 250,000 people who are running out of their current benefits and need additional assistance while they continue to look for a new job. Any new extension or next level of extension will be automatically filed for our customers. Claim forms are expected to be sent the week of March 7, 2010, within the two-week time period covered by the forms so no interruption in payments is expected for eligible claimants.

The new legislation also extends the additional $25 stimulus payments on each week of UI benefits currently being paid by the federal government. The impact on an individual’s eligibility to collect further UI benefits depends on when they started their regular UI claim and when they are set to exhaust their current benefits.""

My interpretation is that, for the next federal extension for which your are eligible, the key date is when you exhaust your benefits not when your initial one year claim expires. As such, you should qualify for the next extension (3rd for you since you say you are currently on the second) based on the bill just passed provided you exhaust your current benefits and a claim for the extension is filed for you prior to April 4. While there is some confusing whatif type info, I don't think you will get anything farther unless Congress takes additional action.

And to add a little more info, the additional action that Congress is currently considering would extend current programs (the 4 extensions) to the end of the calendar year. There is no provision in the bill being considered to add a fifth extension. Of course, a lot of things can and do change while a bill goes through the legislative process.
