My question involves a roommate in the State of: New York (NYC).
I am Roommate A - I am the only Rooomate on the lease which expires in six months.
Roommate B moved out six months ago.
Roommate C moved into Roommate B's room.
Roommate C wote Roommate B a check to refund B's security deposit.
Roommate C has no written agreement regarding the lease agreements. That means there is no written agreement with myself and nothing with the property owner, C is just listed as a guest of the apartment.
Roommate C is being relocated and is moving out. If a replacement is not able to be found, is Roommate C entitled to a Security Deposit Refund? If so, from whom?
I'd love to be able to refund Roommate C the security deposit, but if there isn't a new Roommate who is going to pay for next months rent, I simply can't afford it. What are my responsibilities and liabilities?
