Default Adding a non-father's name to the birth certificate

My situation is a little confusing. The man who actually got me pregnant when I had my now 16 month old son, decided to leave me when I was pregnant because I wouldn't have an abortion. I decided to leave it alone because it wasn't good or safe to have a guy like that around us anyway. Since then, for the past almost 2 years, I've been with a wonderful guy who wants nothing more than to be the legal father of my child. Since there is no father's name on the birth certificate, can he just sign it? The real father has been gone for 2 years and I will not search for him.

Default Re: Adding a father's name to the birth certificate

If the goal is to avoid having the biological father gain rights to the child, having the boyfriend sign would not ordinarily stop him from later trying to establish his rights through a paternity action.
