You are welcome! And after reading this all again I will tell you that a case like yours is probably not going to worry the LP's and soon be forgotten. Their job (stopping you and getting the merchandise back) is over and done with. We get case after case where I am at so if you were my case I would have forgotton about you by now and already had 10 more apprehensions after yours. I personally, like other LP's, are more interested in the thieves who are making a living off of shoplifting.
The SOL is, in my opinion, good for identifying people from crimes that have ALREADY been committed but the subjects have not yet been identified. Let's say a Target in Detriot, MI had a large theft of IPOD's from one of their store's by two subjects. The individuals on camera were never caught but video evidence was retained by the LP who reviewed it. Now, a year later, the same two people do the same thing in the same store. But this time they are caught. The LP recognizes the individuals from the theft a year ago. Now SOL comes into effect and they could be charged for the IPOD theft a year earlier too. That's what I use the SOL for.
Thanks a lot again! I hope you are right. It's been over a week, and $200 Civil Demand was withdrawn from my checkings account. So hopefully, this will not go any further. But I am still a little paranoid, of course, given how hard it would be for me to prove that I am innocent if they choose to notify the police.
What you said about SOL makes sense. It would not make much sense for Meijer to wait 4 years and then notify police about this.
Just remember you are banned from ALL Meijer stores - even the ones out of state.
Actually, they said that I was NOT banned from any Meijer stores. But I do not see myself going there for a very long time, anyway.
Not banned is good, and very rare!
