My 19 y.o. niece was accepted for an internship at a local hospital. For as long as I can remember she always wanted to be a nurse. She went to take the physical and flagged positive for hepatitis c. She was informed this morning that she would not be allowed to work in a hospital. The internship was a desk job at a local hospital in the nuclear medicine department. Is this legal??
I am wondering if everyone in this program has been screened for this and also curious if patients in hospitals, medical facilities are all to believe that everyone who works with patients, in any capacity - medical billers, nuclear medicine, x ray techs are all absolutely disease free. Is this a requirement to work in this field? Any help appreciated.
