Default Can a Co-Signer Be Released Due to a Medical Condition

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Minnesota

I have one private student loan through that my grandmother co-signed on in 2006, it defaulted this Jan.(i think). I was unemployed for a year and as of next week all of my other loans will be current. She now has severe Alzheimer's and cant remember 5min ago sometimes. My question is would it be possible to get her released from her cosigner obligation due to the Alzheimer's possibly being a contributing factor in her co-signing for me?. I really don't care if I get sued because i have nothing but I feel horrible about my grandmother being responsible for me when she can't even take care of herself.

You can raise the question with your lender. Lenders typically do not release cosigners unless loans are current and the borrower is financially able to qualify for the loan without a cosigner.
