    Question Assault or Malicious Wounding

My question involves injury or loss that occurred in the state of: Virginia

My boyfriend hit a male friend of mine this past evening. The fight lasted just about 30 seconds and included my boyfriend hitting my friend about 3 times, but it resulted in my friend's nose being broken and him receiving several stitches.

My boyfriend has never hit someone before, and he just hit him with his fists (i.e. there was no weapon). When I spoke with someone at the court today, they told me that he had been arrested and was being charged with malicious wounding.

My two questions are: could this be reduced to a misdemeanor charge since he did not have intent to hurt him as much as he did? Also, if this does stand as malicious wounding, what is the normal result of this charge? Thank you for any help you anyone can give!

Your boyfriend needs two things - an attorney, and anger management classes.

If would be beneficial if he starts anger management treatment before his court date.

By the way - his fists ARE weapons.
