My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
A little over a year ago, I picked up a bad shoplifting habit. Eventually, after realizing the kind of trouble I was risking and the damage shoplifting does to stores/communities/consumers/etc, I came to my senses and stopped. I was never confronted in a store, but I often left packaging behind, my license plate was probably visible to parking lot cameras, and some stores might have my credit card info. I'm sure I could be tracked, if the store really wanted to. It's been about 10 months since I last stole anything. I've heard nothing from anybody in that time, but I have moved around a bit recently, so I think it's possible stores and the police don't know where to find me.
I've been checking in the various cities/counties where I stole for outstanding warrants, and have found nothing. Should I be doing something other than just calling and asking about warrants?
Also, I stole from two stores of the same major retail chain in two different counties. If their corporate LP were to tie all the thefts together and report them, how would they do so? Would they file separate charges in each city/county? Would they have to go to the state (or even federal) level? Does anybody know how to check for warrants (or whatever else I should be doing) on these levels?
I know I don't really deserve it, but please help. And thank you.
