This is my timeline:

May 1996- Came to the US with a 6-month tourist visa and it expired on Nov. 1996
Nov. 1997- Won the DV-98 and I was granted my work authorization and social security. Since I overstayed my tourist visa, I had to pay $ 1000 fine and I did.
1998 - Renewed my Work Permit - valid till Dec. 99
1999 - Renewed my Work Permit - Valid till Dec. 00
2000 - Renewed my work Permit - Valid till Dec. 01
2001 - Renewed my Work Permit - Valid till Dec. 02
April 2001 - Brother filed a petition I-130 as a backup since it was taking too long for me to get my interview.
June 2002 - Applied for Advanced Parole and went back to home country. Parole granted since I had a valid work permit.
December 2002 - Denied work permit renewal based on the fact that I failed to appear for my interview. I was told I was sent a letter and I never got anything.
January 2003 - Contacted several lawyers and I was told it would be a waste of time to fight.
January 2003 until present - out of status
July 2009 - Contacted by USCIS and told that the petition that brother filed was approved and I should wait for my priority date that I would be contacted by the National Visa Center when I should apply. On the letter I received, it states that since my brother filed before April 30th 2001, I would be able to adjust my status in the US.

Now, I do not know if by trip to home country, even thought I had an advance parole, would affect the possibiliites of adjusting my status here in the US.

Thank you.
