My question involves criminal law for the state of: NY
I was involved in a bar fight in 2001. I defended myself and a was treated by EMTs the night of the incident. A week later two detective came to my home and told me I was wanted for questioning. I was told if I came in on the following Monday we could clear things up.
I did as asked and was promptly arrested and ultimately charged with 2nd Degree Assault. My court appointed attorney advised me to take a plea. I sat in a court house cell for nearly a month.
I took the plea for probabtion. I eventually transferred to another state with the courts permission. The original state continued to call me and send me letters about meetings in NY even though I no longer lived there and had me brought back on one occasion. The court recognized my situation and let me return to the state I resided in.
I served out the resy of my term peacefully and now have been told I have a warrant for violation in NY from a period of time during my probabtion. It's been nine years and I have a good job and a pregnant wife.
I'm so afraid my life is going to be destroyed what can I do?
I think it could be in reference to failure to pay restitution. I had problems with that and told the judge this. I had thought this was taken care of.
