Automated ticket for 28 mph in 20 mph school zone (WA)
My wife was mailed a speeding ticket for driving 28 mph in a 20 mph school zone while in an unfamiliar city in WA. Although this is not considered a traffic ticket, she’s very upset about it and we would like to avoid the charge (i.e., $124). This is her first speeding ticket in 20 years of driving and in a non-automated circumstance she’d probably get away with a warning.
I’ve heard that some states can’t enforce an automated ticket, due to no guarantee that it was received, but I don’t know what the WA state law is regarding this. It appears that infractions in school zones cannot be waived, reduced, or suspended, although it’s unclear to me whether that applies here, since it’s considered a parking ticket, not a traffic ticket.
Any suggestions?
