My boyfriend is in the process of a divorce. It was started before I entered the picture. The house is in his wife's name. There is a home equity loan that he said he co-signed for. His X is now looking for him to pay half of the loan on the house. Now she has the house up for sale. According to him, it is legal for him to pay half the home loan even though he is only a co-signer. She won't let him in the house for any of his things and has even given away some of his property. He told me he didn't know the house was up for sale and that he might have to just cut his losses so he can move on. My questions are, in PA, how can one be forced to pay half of a home equity loan if they are listed as co-signer when the house was used for collateral? Is he entitled to half of the amount received in the sale of the home even though his name is not on the house (it was purchased while they were together)? I'n not sure I believe everything he tells me, but he does get upset when these topics come up so now I'm completely confused.
