    Default Employer ID Number Required

My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: CT

I need this number to be able to apply for UI, how do I get ahold of this number? its not on any of my paychecks/stubs.

Also the second part of this question is this.

I asked my manager (who has been with the company for 4 years) if we were allowed to use coupons on purchases, the manager said "OF COURSE WE ARE" so I used a coupon on a purchase, that I had my manager actually ring me out for, turns out we can NOT use coupons and were both terminated, my question is this, is it my problem if MY manger is misinformed? I did the correct thing and actually asked my manager before acting, and HE was incorrect.

In my state, it's the UI commission's problem to get the employer ID. But if your state makes it your problem, you can get it off your W-2.

If your manager gives you misinformation, it can still be your problem if your employer wants to make it your problem.

It sounds like you made a purchase(s) using your employee discount plus a coupon for a further price reduction. Using your employee discount plus a manufacturer's coupon should not be a problem and you certainly should not have been terminated for doing this. Using your employee discount plus an in-store coupon or one of your company's discount coupons could be a problem but termination for doing so seems harsh. Did something else happen ? Perhaps did you let a family member or friend use your employee discount card for this transaction ? That will get you terminated.
    Good luck.

actually I didn't use MY employee discount as well as the coupons, in fact I never even got my discount card the whole time I worked there (everyones very lazy and I asked a few times with no result so I just said the hell with it)

it was JUST store coupons, as employee's we are NOT allowed to use any coupons at all (I know this NOW) but like I said my manager who has been there 4 years also did not know this and was fired for ringing me out on this purchase.

BTW the coupons saved me a VERY large $26

It's a shame that your manager gave you misleading information but there was nothing illegal about your termination anyway.

you could get the employee ID number from the corporate office or from the W-2 forms. if you used the coupon during the work hours "such as during the break or lunch time" then it's incorrect. but if you used it after work hours. i do not see anything wrong with it. you would have been just a customer...

Actually, the UI account number isn't on your W-2 unless you work in one of the "combined" states, such as NY, NJ, CA, ME (may be a couple more). What is on the W-2 is the withholding tax ID number.

Ask the payroll or HR person. I'm sure they've been asked this many times before if it's required to file for unemployment.

I do the payroll for my company, and the Employer's UI number is not on any W2 form or pay stub. It is on our quarterly state tax forms where we pay our UI.

It is interesting that the CT DOL has a Website, guide for employees, FAQ etc, but not how to find the UI number, at least not easily anyway, unless I missed something. I'm in NY, and there is a requirement that there should a poster on the wall with information that UI is required, and the number.

If I were you, just call DOL and see if someone can direct you, if you haven't found the info on-line. I've been in a number of companies, and especially with small ones, the poster with the UI number is normally hung in the managers office. If you know someone there, have him or her look it up, or maybe you can call the store management, or the HR department directly. They are legally obligated to inform you of it.
