Default Becoming a Police Officer with a Minor Record

My question involves a background check in the State of: IL

When I was younger I made some poor choices, which led me into legal trouble. At 14 I was convicted of attempt residential burglary. I spent two months in a juvenile detention center , and three years on probation. I have had no other legal issues other than speeding tickets. I am about to start an associates in science- criminal justice, law enforcement specialty. And I dont want to get a degree I cant use. Will this effect me becoming a police officer? or is this information sealed? if its not sealed will it matter since i was only 14? (im now 20)

You may petition to have your juvenile record expunged/sealed, but law enforcement agencies will still be able to see the record.

A criminal record - particularly a juvenile record - is not necessarily an automatic bar to becoming a police officer. This varies by jurisdiction, however, so you'll need to check with the local PDs about their requirements.
