Default Expunging a felony - 17 years later

Is it possible to have a felony expunged 17 years later? My son was convicted of a felon when he was 17 yrs. old - criminal damage to property if I remember correctly (in Illinois). Is it possible to have this expunged from his record ? He's not had any other convictioins of any kind since that time. If yes, would it still show up if an employer did background check ?
    Thanks for any advice >

Default Sealing or expunging an Illinois criminal record

There is a great deal of information available on the Illinois Appellate Defender's website, in relation to sealing or expunging an Illinois criminal record.
