Let me see if I understand the question properly.
You are asking if you can collect SDI from the state of California, even after moving to, say, Arizona?
yes, that is correct.
my husband has colon cancer and we simply cannot afford california with 2 kids anymore.
thanks : )
I couldn't find anything that specifically addressed the question one way or the other, but you might be able to find more information here: https://eapply4ui.edd.ca.gov/eddcomm...rmEDDCOMM.aspx
I couldn't either, so I will check out the link...Thanks for trying!!!
Best wishes to your husband for a full recovery!
Thank You Very Much!!!
I should clarify its known as Ca State Disability Insurance (SDI) it is for a one year period.
Okay, after many hours of searching on the internet I found the answer....NO you cannot still receive SDI when you move from CA to another state. It must be a CA state dr who authorizes it....which of course makes sense.
Now...does anyone know if you can move to another state, say AZ and find a new dr. (which is referred by CA dr) and claim disability in that state????
Thanks so much !!!
Only 5 states have mandatory disability--CA, NY, NJ, RI, Puerto Rico (ok, so PR isn't a state, but you get the picture).
You missed HI. It's five states plus Puerto Rico.
So before the question even came up, you would have to be moving to a state which had such a program in the first place.
