    But... but... it isn't FAIR!!!!

The OP shouldn't have to pay for all the other thieves... this is America!!!

    What crap.

OP, personally, I wish that civil demands were triple or more what they are.

After a certain point, theft would become far less attractive..

but, probably not. After all, what thief assumes they will be the one to get caught, right?
Presumably not many of them. It takes a special kind of stupid to "know" you're going to get caught "this time" and still go in setting about it.

what would you suggest? They mail you a bill for the candy bar, a pro-rated bill for the amount of camera time you took up, the amount of tape you were recorded on, all the relevant employees' wages, the cost of the two postage stamps involved in the civil demand, and, of course, the cost of hiring the mathematicians working on pro-rating the aforementioned crap.

Hell, paying for the mathematicians alone would cost more than $250.00.

How about if you, or the "friend" for whom you're writing this just stops being a thieving douche?

Thanks a lot for not capitalizing the letter W in your first sentence.

You forgot to capitalize the letter I which is very important in a sentence.

Your sentence is unbearable to read with my own eyes.
I got A's in my essays and I got A's in my English courses, so why should I prove anything to you?

Edit: Oh I see the little Italic message. Uhhhhhh... carry on.

Sometimes it's important to understand the totality of a situation before offering up commentary. =P
