    Default Shoplifting in Ohio

    All,

I just got caught shoplifting a $14 item from the local wal-mart. yes it was dumb. i never had to sign anything and they never pulled out a camera, but they did gather the information from my ID (do think they ever scanned it). they said the item was under the price range for which they prosecute but that i will receive a fine in the mail.

if anyone has any experience or knowledge on this topic i would like to know:
-is it mandatory that i pay this fine?
-more importantly, will this information be on my record/credit score at any point in time (employer backgound checks)

additional info: i am a 21 year old male in ohio.

any help/advice would be most appreciated!

Yes you have to pay the fine. If you dont' pay the fine, you will find a little item called a "collection" account on your credit history.

Yes your information will be loaded into a database.

Be ready to fork over a few hundred dollars at the very least. This penalty is being assessed to you because retailers have to pay for security and other loss prevention measures
