Default Red Light Camera Flashed on Right Turn

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California.

I was making a right turn, and as I came to a complete stop, the red light camera flashed. I was driving relatively quickly (20 mph?), approaching the intersection, and I stopped rather abruptly, about halfway into the crosswalk... I guess just enough to set off the sensor. There were no pedestrians in sight.

Do I have any chance of appealing this, or is simply setting off the sensor enough to "prove" my guilt?

Have you received a photo and citation in the mail yet?

    Thanks!

You will not get a ticket. Before a ticket is issued, the video, etc. is reviewed by a human, and they only issue tickets to people who continue on around the corner.

Just for your knowledge base, on the extremely slight change that they DO issue a ticket, you and anyone else in California or visiting need to know about Snitch Tickets, fake/phishing red light camera tickets sent out by the police to fool the registered owner into identifying the actual driver of the car. A Snitch Tickets has not been filed with the court, so it won't say "Notice to Appear," won't have the court's addr. and phone #, and it will say (on the back, in small letters), "Do not contact the court about this notice." Since it's NOT been filed with the court, a Snitch Ticket has no legal weight whatsoever. You can ignore a Snitch Ticket.

California cops use the Snitch Tickets because CA is a "driver responsibility" state - a red light camera ticket has to name the actual driver, or it can be dismissed. Most other states' camera tickets are "owner responsibility" so they don't need to use Snitch Tickets.

If any question, Google the term Snitch Ticket.

That's not true... At least it is not consistent with what the vehicle code states. And based on what the OP (set) has posted: "I stopped rather abruptly, about halfway into the crosswalk..." chances are he/she will be getting a citation within the next week or two (for Red Light camera Citations, they have 15 days to review the tape, issue the notice of infraction and mail it.

Here's is the vehicle code section I am referring to:

21453. (a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subdivision (b).

So there is a likelyhood that the flash that you saw was caused by your crossing the limit line/entering the crosswalk before making a complete stop.

At any rate, unless and until the citation is received by you, there is not much you can do about it.

With that being said, the question that begs itself is "who is the vehicle registered to"? Reason I ask, is because the ciation is usually issued in the name of the registered owner.
