Default Default on a Settlement Agreement

Roughly in about 2004 I think, I went though a major crisis in my life. I was ripped off by shitty business partners and left with no money. This money is not the question. At the time since I had no money or job, I was not able to pay several debts. I also got sued by a company over something frivilous which I tried to fight in court for a while myself. The stress mounting because of my business partners, and lack of any money coming in, I wasnt able to afford a lawyer. In despaire I signed a deal with the company trying to sue me to pay 4000 to them in payments. I paid for a while what I could, but eventually I just dropped outa records everywhere and lived on the road for several years doing jobs for cash and what not.
    (This all happened in California)

Fast foreward to 2007 I got a great job, and reestablished myself in a different state, and only dealed with cash (and still do for the most part), although I do have a paycheck. (I live in colorado now)

I never have heard anything from any of my debts, let alone the company that sued me.

Today I got something in the mail from a debt I owe with a phone company. I probably wont fight, and will pay it off. but it got me thinking about that company that sued me.. will they come looking for me?

First off in my defense I was sued over someone fueled with hate looking for any opportunity to take it out on SOMEONE. A friend of mine had worked for him, and things happened. I got blamed. A company car was vandalized.

Now the lawyer that he hired, was a personal friend of his, and I could tell he was just doing this to **** with me. It seemed to be a game to make me misreble and to get anything they could from someone that looked like they had money. (I had a BMW sports car at the time)

Part of the deal was that I pay the 4k, or else they would enter a judgement of 20k against me. Im assuming since I never finished paying it off that judgement went through.

At the time of being sued the company changed names. Im not sure why, but I was sued under the old companys name. I am not sure if they went bankrupt or if he just closed the business and reopened.. whatever, this guy is pretty shadey.

It was an LLC I believe and I wonder if they could still bother trying to get this money outa me. (even though they dont exist)

Will paying the other creditor alert other seekers of my pressance and willing to pay?

I have no problem paying this creditor that contacted me recently. I -probably- legitamatly owe this money (I have to check my records).

I guess what Im worried about is this 20k coming after me. I cant afford that. If it did, would I have any legal recourse to visit this, or did I doom myself by signing the deal?

If you want to know the status of the judgment, you will need to contact the court where the litigation occurred and see what's in the court file. You can also pull your credit report (the free site is annualcreditreport.com) and see if it's listed - but note that its absence from your credit report doesn't mean that there's no judgment.
