If I Get Emancipated Will I Be Able to Be with My Boyfriend, Who Just Turned 18

I am currently 14 years old and I live in Washington. my birthday is may of 1995. my boyfriend just turned 18 in spetember and I have a few questions about us being together. I've done my research but I want to make sure everything I have read is accurate.

1.) Legally, can i 'date' him? Can I kiss him if we don't have sex?
2.) If, when I turn 16, I get emancipated, can I legally date him?
3.) I have read the RCW about child molestation, which is most likely what he would be charged with since we're not sexually active. It states "A person is guilty of child molestation in the third degree when the person has, or knowingly causes another person under the age of eighteen to have, sexual contact with another who is at least fourteen years old but less than sixteen years old and not married to the perpetrator and the perpetrator is at least forty-eight months older than the victim." Since he's not a full 48 months, does this law apply to him and is there a law that does?

What in the world makes you think you will be emancipated at 16???

1.) That is entirely up to your parents. The law is NOT going to force them to allow you to date anyone they do not wish you to date. If they say you can date him, you can. If they say you cannot date him, you can't.
2.) There is not a judge in the US who will emancipate a minor so that she can go to live with her boyfriend. The answer remains the same; as long as you are under 18, you can date him if and only if your parents agree. Trust me, you will NOT be getting emancipated at 16.
3.) Oh, believe me, sweetheart, there are a whole HOST of things he can be charged with. Not all of them fall under sex laws.

maybe I should have said more, I already support myself 100% and have for years. I work, go to school and am getting my ged when I turn 16 and am going to continue school. the reason I would like to get emancipated is because I already support myself and if it would lallow me to be with my boyfriend then that's just an advantage.

Really...You have supported yourself for "years"? You pay for your own housing, heat, electricity, medical, dental, food, transportation, clothing, cable, INTERNET, and personal items...ALL while going to school FULL time? For "years"???

Please explain what job a 14 year old child can have that would "support" her in this manner.

Emancipation usually falls within people who are able to pay their own expenses, and have reasons beyond "I want to be with my boyfriend".

Your boyfriend can continue his relationship with you - if he would like to place on the Sex Offender Registry for life. He can be charged with Influencing a Minor. Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Lots of other trouble he can get into.

Bottom line: If you love your boyfriend, let him go. Wait until you are also 18 to get the relationship going again.
