My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of:MASSACHUSETTS
I have several questions, with regard to extended benefits and temporary work.
I have been offered a 5 month temporary position making more than my UI benefit. If I accept the 5 month position, which is without benefits and in another state (I am currently collecting MA unemployment and living in Maine) can I return to my extended unemployment benefits when the temporary position is over? I have exhausted the original 26 weeks of benefits and am several weeks into the first extension - EB08.
Should I have a contract with this company as an independant contractor?
What do I claim if the contract pays bi-weekly? Would the contract amount for that check be claimed for the week it was paid in? and a UI claim filed for the week not paid? The unemployment office did tell me at one time that if I worked freelance and was paid a lump sum for that freelance work that I would report that full amount for the week it was paid (as opposed to the hours worked) and in that week I would not be eligible for UI. The next week I would file as usual with no additional income. I am confused about what to do here and am also afraid of what happens at the end of the 5 month term because I am on Extended Benefits. Will I be without unemployment benefits assuming the extended benefits are still in place?
I do want to work and report this but am trying to determine whether to accept the temp work or keep looking for permanent work.
Thanks.
