My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: New Jersey

I have been trying to research the answer to my question online and have not had any luck finding answers.

I'm curious to know the maximum amount of hours a person can work in a row. For example... let's say you work on a job that you have to be on call once in a while.

It happens to be a week you are on call and you go in at the start of your shift at 7:30am and work until 4pm. You had a regular day with a normal workload. You get in your vehicle to leave but as you pull out you get called that work just came in and since you are on call you return to work and start working again. The job you were called in on is actually a huge job and you end up working on it from 4:30 until 7:00 the NEXT morning 14.5 hours IN ADDITION to the 8 you worked the day before. Now it's 7am and you are due back in at 7:30 to start your regular shift.

Let's now say you are on call 7 days in a row... although unlikely it is possible you could work 24 hours a day for all 7 days.

Are there any mandatory break times? What if you are physically unable to continue? Do you have to actually pass out and have an ambulance pick you up? would it make a difference if you do office work or if you work outside for a utility type company where you could be climbing telephone poles or in ditches, or working on a street?

I've read about how O/T is paid in a situation when you work over 40 hours in a week. I am not asking anything about the pay. I am interested in any info about the length of time you could be forced to work.
