California.

I understand California is an at will employment state.

I was terminated just today for "not doing my job well" after only three weeks of work. I can go on all day about my work ethic and my obstacles and challenges at this job (Which was at a law firm, mind you!) But this is not about my work ethic or why I was terminated.

I originally accepted a job at a fairly large bankruptcy law firm where I'm from. It was great. Great job, pay, benefits, the works. I was excited.

So the day they called me and offered me the position, I accepted, and told my then employer.

I wanted to tender my two weeks, but the job at the law firm was set to start that next monday. I got the call on Thursday.

I told my boss on Thursday. She was happy to let me go to bigger and better things.

So, I QUIT my last job, to work for this law firm. The day AFTER I quit my job, the law firm calls me and states that there is some restructuring going on, and he is not sure my position has been put on hold. I told him that I had quit my job the day he had offered me the job. He said he'd see what he could do and call me back.

He calls me back in an hour or so, and says that they can put me in the mail room until they figure out what was going on with the position I applied for.

So, fast forward to today, I get fired for a job I never applied for.

Is this something that could be built up upon. I talked to a local attorney, and he said tough luck on getting fired. But the change in conditions may be something. Quitting my job to take another, but they change it on me.

Thanks for any insight
