My question involves criminal law for the state of: utah.
I was arrested for shoplifting at the gap and charged with a class b misdemeanor. I was cooperative with police and admitted to stealing at another store in the area, they didn't charge me with anything but gave me a criminal trespass notice. I went into the store with the intention to steal and I told them that...it was obvious. The officer said because i was honest she wouldn't actually take me in so i was then released.
I intend on asking for a public defense lawyer at my first court hearing in a week but I don't know whether to plead guilty, no contest, or not guilty. I don't understand the implications that come with pleading. I clearly admitted quilt when i was taken into custody but i want an a lawyers advice on what to do next and I cant afford one.
