My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: CA
Situation:
I was admitted to a prestigious part-time MBA program in another city, which required me to move. I had previously achieved my bachelor degree while working full-time for my company (the company worked around my school schedule, so they have a history of working with my school needs), but choose a part-time business program so that it would not interfere with my work. I applied for over 10 positions (to transfer) in the new city and had phone interviews as well as flew to the new city for face to face interviews. Ultimately, I was not offered a position to transfer to in the new city. Am I eligible for unemployment benefits?
Based on what I have read:
Would a reasonable person quit?
Quitting for school has been defined as NOT a reasonable reason to quit, but school is not preventing me from continuing to work for my company in the new city. I believe a reasonable person would expect ____ company to accommodate a transfer (if there are open positions, obviously) for an employee advancing their skills through a top b-school, because they would want to keep an employee that is over-achieving. A reasonable person would also think so after the company accommodated a (more inconvenient) full-time undergrad school schedule.
Did I try to preserve my employment?
Yes. I applied for over 10 jobs of the same position and even traveled 500 miles to the new city for interviews.
Am I available for full-time work?
Yes. Classes are on Tues/Thurs nights from 6-9:40p. I am not limited by school, and the program is designed to allow for a career while attending.
Thank you for your help!
