My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Washington
About 3 weeks ago i was pulled over for my mud flaps being to short, 1 7/8ths inch to short i measured and the officer gave me a warning for them and during the process i showed him my licence that had expired on my 21st birthday about a week before. He then cited me for driving on an expired licence, a $550 dollar ticket. doing some reading online it seamed that the fine for that should have only been $250. Anyway i requested a mitigation hearing because from what i was able to find online if you renewed it within 30 days they reduced the fine to $25 or 50 dollars i cant remember which. So today i got a letter in the mail that i could mitigate by mail or at the clerks counter, the letter said that the original fine was $550 and the qualified amount is $502. Does that mean that they want me to pay $502 or that they have reduced it by $502 requiring me to pay $48. If they want me to pay $502 i will go to court and try to find out why my ticket was over $250 and why it wasn't reduced to $25-50 but if its $48 i will pay it and move on. Any advice or can anyone help me with my understanding of the law as it applies to this?
