I'll try to make it as short as possible.
2 years ago I was rear ended on the freeway. There was lots of traffic and I was stopped while someone behind me came flying at me at about 40-60 miles/hr. I ended up hitting another car and barely missing few other oncoming cars/semi trucks in other lanes. Now I was in a SUV and it took a hit pretty good, there was about 10k worth of damages. As far as my spine goes, there's all kinds of bulged and compressed disks and whole lot more. I'm in my early 20s and otherwise healthy. I've had about 30k worth of medical bills since then and I can't say that I'm healed or back to normal. I kinda gave up on it and just want to concentrate on work.
The reason for this thread is that I recently found out that my lawyer, in the past has screwed over clients. Got caught once I think. He is sort of friends with my brother so I hope he doesn't pull a number on me but who knows.
With that said, the case is getting wrapped up now and the negotiations are about to start. All my medical bills were covered by personal injury plan on my car insurance(up to 250K). I'm not sure about the other parties coverage but from what I heard is that first the lawyer is supposed to go to the other parties insurance and if he's coverage is not enough he is going to go after my own insurance. Is that true.
Also do I have to repay my insurance for the 30k they spent on my treatment?
What in your opinion is a fair compensation for this? I want to know if my lawyer is basically low-balling or screwing me over...
