My question involves criminal law for the state of: RI
Hello,
My GF son who is 22 is an in home caregiver. He is Bi-Polar but normally not an issue. For some reason, he allegedly stole and hocked some jewelry from a home he has worked at for years. He has never done this or anything like this and his Doc is sure it is due to the lack of proper meds. I have a friend who is an attorney, not a criminal attorney but a good and dedicated guy. We can't afford to hire a criminal attorney. He is to be turned in in a week from Monday. I don't know much but I want to help the attorney out whereas this is not the end of the law he deals with normally. Whereas it has been a month or so since we first heard about it, and he is not being turned in until next week, obviously no one is super concerned. I would like to see him released on his own recognizance rather than bail and then plea this way down or make it go away due to mental defect. We can prove we put him in the hospital for a week for treatment and then to a day program. We also have him seeing a Physiatrist now. Applying for new jobs and stuff. So my questions are: Do you think they would go with the no bail thing and what would we plea this down to. The alleged items are Jewelry over $500. I believe however it is very close to $500. Any help would be great!!
Thanks!!
