What to Do when You Turn Yourself In

My question involves criminal law for the state of: new york. A friend of mine have a warrant out for his aresst. he worked in a retail store as a L.P agent and while on duty watching the gage.( which is where all expense merchandis is held) a coworker comes in and goes back there and in the process a playstation 3 was stolen. we guess the guy told the cops or the store that my friend was involved, but he wasn't. my friend did know the guy so said hi to him, but was very tired from working five other shifts from other jobs before that one and can't really remember if he asked him for a recept to prove the gut had bought the playstation. The police already contacted him and wants him to turn himself in. Now they claim they have him on tape, but we don't know whats on there. What should he do before turning his self in?
He has a case that will be pending for a year for a assualt charge so i guess he has a record.

He should speak with a criminal defense attorney. He needs to do that right away.
