Ok. That makes sense.

But then I guess what doesn't make sense is that she doesn't get overtime for hours worked over the 40 per week. Which means that she is either exempt (and didn't realize it) OR that she's been getting hosed out of overtime pay. (or that she falls into one of the limited exception categories you mentioned)

I'm going to guess that she is exempt.

I think her best bet is probably to contact HR and get some more details about her exact status etc...
