    Default Concealing Merchandise

My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Carolina

I was in a food lion and put a 65 cent can of food in my pocket. A security guy from the store posing as a shopper was on the same aisle and saw me do it and he approached me told me to go to the back with him. The police were called, and the officer gave me a citation for concealment of merchandise. I have to appear in court and have no idea what to do. Should I get a lawyer or just show up and plead guilty? If I plead guilty what will happen to me? I'm 19 and this is the first time I've ever been in trouble and I don't want this to be on my record. Please tell me what I should do and what I should expect.

Talk to a lawyer about the possibility of a deferral, or other disposition that might allow you to avoid a conviction. If you plead guilty you will be convicted and get a criminal record.
