My question involves paternity law for the State of: Tennessee
Hi there
I'll get to the quick of this. I have 3 children with a woman, they were born in Tennessee in Davidson county. At the time of their births of the the woman i was seeing was still legally married to her husband even tho they had not been together in about 8 years. For whatever reasons she did not try to get a divorce or legal seperation. Anyways when the children were born I was not listed on the birth certificate as the father and the birth certificates just say mother refused for the fathers name. now i was told by my childrens mother that the social worker that was assigned to her would not allow her to list me as the father becasue she was still married and that there was either a Tennessee law or a Davidson County law that required her to be divorced for 180 days before she could list me as being the biological father on the birth certificate.
We stayed together three years after their births and I never doubted what she had told me. Now we are seperated and several people that I have explained the situation to have said that she lied about the reason for not listing me as the father on the birth certificates. Does anyone know for sure if there is a law as I was told by my childrens mother requiring her to be divorced for 180 days? Any help would be appreciated.
